Anna’s background and how she got into music
Anna moved to Germany when she was 8. Her mother is a piano teacher and she started having lessons with her when she was a child. Having lessons with her Mum didn’t work out. She really wanted to sing instead.
When she was growing up Anna really admired Mariah Carey, both her voice, her melodies and her songwriting. She tried to sing like her, but it was hurting her voice. She went to have singing lessons to learn how to sing properly.
How Anna developed the Tygapuss sound
Although she really loved Mariah Carey and the catchy boy and girl bands of the nineties, Anna’s sound is very different. When she was talking to her producer one day they decided they wanted to show their imperfect selves. They wanted to create a dirty and raw sound. Some of her influences are Blondie, The Police and The Strokes. So she mixed the melodies and songs in her head with a rawer post-punk revival sound.
How Anna gets her inspiration
Anna often gets her inspiration when she is in nature. When it’s quiet she can hear the melodies in her head. Sometimes it is difficult to pinpoint exactly where her ideas come from. However, the lyrics to “He’s Savage like an Animal’’ came to her when she was watching ‘’Dirty Dancing’’, one of her favourite films.

Writing music with someone else
Anna writes music with her music partner. They bounce ideas around. Sometimes they disagree, but they have been working together long enough that they can tell each other when things don’t work.
How Anna keeps track of her ideas
Anna keeps her phone with her all the time so she can record melodies and type in notes for lyrics.
How Anna recorded her first album
Anna recorded her album “Fun” in an old building used as a studio which had retro recording equipment. She used it to try and get a raw sound.

Getting heard on the radio
Anna is connected to many radio DJs. She started getting her music out using college radio stations and has more recently been played by one of the largest German Radio Stations.
